Introduced in 1957, the model 6122/7160* Country Gentleman was Gretsch’s second highest offering, with Chet Atkins playing a Country Gent as his main guitar for decades. Notable features are the 2” deep body (thinner than a 6120), 2 Filtertron humbucker pickups, thumbnail ‘neo-classic’ fret markers, ‘trestle bracing’ linking the top to the back to minimise feedback, truss rod adjustable at the neck heel, gold plated hardware, ‘Action-Flo nut’ and an ebony fretboard. The double cut-away Country Gent debuted in 1961, and here we have the fully evolved ‘fifth and final’ version. This guitar’s Walnut finish is in very good condition and the binding is perfect…no sign of the ‘binding rot’ which affects some older Gretsch guitars. The two original black-topped Filtertrons with brass bezels are strong and all controls work correcly. Frets show no significant wear and the 25-1/2” scale, bound neck is smooth and enjoyable to play. Excellent and original throughout, all original components from the Grover tuners to the Bigsby are fully functional with great tones from both pickups and controls/switchgear working correctly. This guitar has been well cared for, and comes with original green-lined, black Gretsch hard case, complete with hang tags, case key, and truss rod adjustment key. (*The Country Gentleman’s model number changed from 6122 to 7160 in the 1970s).
