The Teisco Model R (does it stand for Rocket?) lap steel has the wildest design of all the wide range of lap steel guitars made by Teisco during the Japanese hey-day of Hawaiian steel guitar music from the American influenced post WW2 period through to the 1960s when pop music took over the airwaves in Japan. Curved chromed metal panels housing the tone and volume controls surround the pearloid-embossed pickup, while a bridge-tailpiece unit brings up the rear. The body has a sculptured 3D look to it. The slotted headstock features a carved pearloid TEISCO logo on the top and 6 open back tuners on the back, while back of the body retains its original mauve felt. All the hardware and electronics work well and the pickup is strong. A great sounding steel guitar that sounds as good as it looks. No case at present but we are on the track of a suitable one.
