SOLD – Le Domino Ukulele c. 1925

$750.00

Chicago luthier James R Stewart created the Le Domino ukulele in the midst of the 1920s ukulele craze. These are a well-made instrument with an elegant ‘german curve’ headstock design, fan bracing of the Birch top & back, laminated w-b-w nut and celluloid binding.  Most striking however is the black lacquer finish with gold domino decals indicating the fret numbers and forming the sound hole and lower body decoration. This particular uke came to us with a history of use in a circus, and it is certainly well worn, with extensive but smooth playing wear on the upper bouts.  The action is slightly high but eminently playable. The back of the neck shows marks from much capo use, however it is smooth to the touch. The tuners are newer functional friction units. Overall a rare and lovely historic ukulele, not to be confused with the later post-1928 versions made by Regal.
