SOLD – Pacific Hawaii – Australian Parlour Guitar c.1935-45

In Melbourne in the 1930s, British-born musician, teacher and seller of banjos and banjo-mandolins Hec McLennan noticed guitar popularity associated with the Hawaiian music that was dominating popular radio programs at the time. He set up the “Pacific Guitars” factory around 1935 and over the next decade  specialised in Parlour size guitars with 12th-fret neck-body joint, laminate construction and often painted finishes.  The more upmarket Pacific models had natural wood finish and bridges (rather than painted stencils and metal tailpieces). This ‘Hawaii’ model is a very good example with its  ‘shaded top’, original tuners (one replaced), ebonised hardwood bridge and recently levelled and polished bar frets.  We date this guitar to around 1940, and it comes with a cool Aussie made Brown ‘Globite’ hard case of the era.  Please feel free to get in touch for more info on this playable piece of Aussie guitar history and/ or delivery quote to your postcode.
