Fender Musicmaster 1960

Fender first introduced  the Musicmaster in 1956 as a student 3/4-sized model, and it was produced as a single-pickup model alongside the Duo Sonic that featured two pickups. These short-scale variants were made to the same high quality standards and materials that Fender used for its more expensive models.

This Fender Musicmaster is from 1960 and it has its original Desert Sand finish. Interestingly, this is definitely the early version of Desert Sand as introduced in 1955, rathe than the darker / browner version called Desert Tan that debuted in 1959/60.)

We can rarely say this about a 65 year old guitar, but this particular Music master presents ‘as new’. The original white single ply pickguard still has the tape in place holding the pickup lead, and the original pots date to 1959. The V shaped neck is pencil-dated 9/60.

This Musicmaster sounds great and plays well, with a low, clean action and intonation; the original frets are at 80% and in excellent shape. From the original ‘no-line’ Klusons to the perfect decal, from the smooth nitro feel of the neck, through to the comfortable slight offset body shape, this is all class.

This guitar came to Australia from the UK and retains its original Bulwin USA case. We love this era of  Musicmasters and believe they offer extraordinary value for a ’60s era Fender electric guitar.
