Designed with input from Japan’s first surf-music electric guitar hero, Takashi ‘Terry’ Terauchi, the Yamaha SG5A qualifies as one of the ultimate creative designs among MIJ electrics. A short summary of its many features include: straight-thru string tension via the elongated headstock, a zero fret for perfect string height at the nut, dark Rosewood fretboard with Fender-style 7.25” radius, a one-piece neck from the top of headstock through to the extension beyond the heel well into the body under the neck pickup, a roller bridge saddle system sitting above strong springs in the body providing smooth and accurate tremolo function, and three single coil pickups in a unique set up with the ‘Balance’ knob giving blend options for the two pickups paired closest to the bridge. Comes with its original hard shell case. The serial. number on the neck plate reads MG69. There’s an excellent detailed video of all the features of the SG5A here:
