As the premier brand of Japanese guitar maker Fuijgen Gakki, Greco guitars have a well-earned vintage reputation, with particular collector interest in higher-end 1970s models. After Fender released the Telecaster Deluxe variant with 2 x humbuckers in 1972, Greco was not far behind, creating fine examples such as this two years later. This 1974 Telecaster Deluxe TD-500 guitar has the quality fit and finish that challenged Fender’s output at the time, and eventually led Fender’s new management team to partner with Fujigen to create Fender Japan in 1982.
In excellent original condition throughout, this light weight (3.7kg / 7lbs4oz) Greco TD-500 Tele Deluxe has a natural ash body and with its string-thru bridge there’s plenty resonance even when unplugged. All components are in original excellent shape, and a particularly comfortable player with its deep Stratocaster-style back body carve. The vintage style frets are 90% on the traditional C-profile one-piece maple neck with 42mm (1-11/16″) nut width. Electronics are strong all-original Maxon humbuckers reading 11.4ohm neck, 11.6bridge. Wiring, pots, pickguard, string-thru-body bridge, knobs etc are all in perfect original condition. Plugging in this versatile Tele definitely delivers a smooth and resonant playing experience and an excellent ‘wide-range’ of tones. Comes with its original strong brown vinyl Japanese gig bag.
