As is well documented, when CBS sold the Fender company minus its real estate in March 1985, the management team needed to establish new factories in California, and Fender Japan was created to ‘fill the gap’. Historical sources indicate that at this time some components travelled between the USA and Japan and vice-versa. From that era we have this sunburst Stratocaster, with pencilled neck date 2 November 1985 but aftermarket neck plate and Rosewood rather than Maple neck. The two-tone ‘burst ‘57’ style body lacks any markings and sports an aftermarket ’62 style pickguard. The pickups look to be ceramic, somewhat unusual but sound great. Overall, an excellent players’ Stratocaster. Comes with an as-new tweed hard case.
