Kay Speed Demon 1966, excellent original condition with new hard case.
Kay shipped their Model K561 Speed Demons from Chicago throughout the early 1960s, with a variety of pickups used during that time. 1966 was the last year of the model, during which it received a new single coil pickup with adjustable poles and was re-named as the ‘Concert Hall Style’ in Kay’s catalogue. However everyone – then and now – prefers the original Speed Demon name, which captures the spirit of this lightweight 7lbs 6oz (2.9) kg, no frills, semi-hollow tone monster. The almost unmarked red duco, double bound thinline cutaway body and flame-shaped 6 in line headstock combine with a full C neck profile, low action and vintage frets for a great mid-60s USA vintage rockabilly vibe, all at a friendly price. Nut width is a generous 1-11/16″, scale length 24.5″ neck angle is perfect, truss rod fitted and working. Pickup reads 6.3k ohms. The pickguard is sadly MIA and frets are 50% but playable, otherwise this clean 100% original example is in excellent original condition, with a good quality as-new formfit hard case.
Notes: The pick-guard is sadly MIA and frets have been polished down low 50% but very playable, otherwise this clean 100% original example is in excellent original condition, with a good quality as-new formfit hard case.
