After acquiring the Epiphone brand in 1957, Gibson introduced their first Epiphone models at the 1958 NAMM convention, with deliveries to music stores in 1959. In that year, this Epiphone Texan Model FT-79, serial number A-1510 was made. With its slope-shoulder 16-1/4” wide, 4-1/4” deep dreadnought body shape, this guitar features fine-grained Spruce top with Mahogany back and sides. The Mahogany neck has a comfortable 1-11/16” (42mm) nut width and soft V profile, while the dark Rosewood fretboard features delicate parallelogram pearl fret markers and original frets at 80%. A pearl headstock logo and vertical oval pearl inlay adorn the black headstock overlay. The elegant pickguard and Rosewood top-belly bridge are original, along with the fully functional Kluson closed 3-on-a-plate tuners. A small professional repair and overspray to an almost invisible stress fracture on the treble side of neck behind the nut can be seen (just), but not felt. In all other respects, this fine first-year Epiphone Texan is in excellent functional and cosmetic condition, easy to play with a balanced tonality and plenty of volume. Comes with a black red-lined ‘Segovia’ form-fit hard case.
