Audio Sprockets Tonedexter V1
The Audio Sprockets ToneDexter V1 is a high-end acoustic instrument preamp/DI pedal that uses proprietary “WaveMap” technology to transform the sound of an undersaddle piezo pickup into the natural, full sound of a microphone, allowing for studio-quality tones with the convenience of a pickup for live performance. It works by “training” on the difference between a mic’d sound and a pickup sound, creating a digital filter to apply to the pickup signal, offering features like EQ, boost, tuner, and feedback control for various acoustic instruments.
How it Works (WaveMap Technology):
Training: You connect both a microphone and your instrument’s pickup to the ToneDexter and “train” it to learn the mic’s sound.
WaveMap Creation: It generates a unique digital “WaveMap” that captures the microphone’s character and corrects the often harsh or thin piezo pickup sound.
Playback: In “Run” mode, it applies this WaveMap to your pickup signal, making it sound like a miked instrument, even at high volumes.
Key Features:
Preamp & DI: Boosts signal and provides balanced XLR output for mixers.
Memory Slots: Stores multiple WaveMaps for different instruments or playing styles (22 slots in V1).
Character Knob: Blends the natural pickup sound with the processed mic sound.
EQ & Boost: Bass, Treble, Notch EQ, and a foot-switchable clean boost.
Tuner: Built-in, mute-able tuner.
Versatility: Supports guitars, violins, mandolins, banjos, cellos, bass, etc., with different firmware versions available for high-pitched vs. bass instruments.
In essence, the ToneDexter V1 solves the common problem of pickups sounding “piezo-ish,” giving acoustic musicians a rich, miked sound in a robust pedal format.
