The Boss CS-2 Compressor Sustainer is a popular vintage guitar effect pedal known for its transparent and smooth compression, which boosts low-level signals and compresses high-level ones for long sustain. Made in Japan between 1981 and 1986, it uses a Voltage Controlled Amplifier (VCA) circuit, offering a faster attack than its predecessor, the CS-1, and is highly regarded for a musical and “fattened” tone that is great for classic rock, country, and country rock. It features Level, Attack, and Sustain knobs for control and is still sought after on the used market.
