Univox Violin Bass Model 1920 c.1968-1972

This is a Univox violin bass in excellent condition and in perfect working order. With the popularity of the Beatles soaring in the mid-60s, Japan filled an ever-growing market for instruments similar to Paul McCartney’s iconic Hofner 500/1 bass.  Made by the well-respected Matsumoku workshop in Nagano, this Univox ‘Model 1920′ is one of the cooler and more ornate variations on that theme. It has a fully hollow maple body and is a classic looking and tonally pleasing instrument.

The neck has a full C shaped profile that is very comfortable and easy to play. The original frets are intact and in great condition. The neck boasts a beautiful rosewood fretboard, which also features aged white binding and pearloid dot inlays. The slotted scroll headstock sports original tuning keys the function perfectly, turn smoothly, and hold pitch well.

The body bears a deep, unfaded three-tone sunburst finish with aged multi-ply binding on the top and back, single ply bound F holes, black pickup covers and original Univox embossed pickguard. Other stock hardware includes chrome knobs, floating rosewood bridge, and stock trapeze tailpiece.

This Univox is a fantastic option for anybody looking to get into an affordable vintage hollow body bass for gigging and recording scenarios!
