Vega Commander Lap Steel and Amplifier 1936

Based in Boston USA, the Vega company were a serious Gibson competitor, producing high quality acoustic and electric instruments up to and including the middle part of last century. Here we have a circa 1936 Vega ‘Commander’ 6-string lap steel guitar (serial 36342) with its matching Vega Commander  ‘Model 183 High Fidelity’ Amplifier (serial B4056).

It’s rare to find an original set such as this, now approaching 89 years old, with both the lap steel and the amp in excellent cosmetic and working condition.  The matching tweed style covering  has faded to a green and amber tones, but is undamaged, with all original hardware.  The pickup in the lap steel is a large single coil unit, the volume and tone controls work correctly and the original strong Grover G28 tuners work perfectly.  Meanwhile the amp is way cool, with 3 inputs, 2 volume controls and a 12” Jensen field coil speaker all in excellent original condition. A fabulous vintage duo!
