With transformer codes dating to May and August 1965, chassis number 12722, and amp serial number 18216, this ‘Grey Panel’ AC30 Tob Boost amp was made in JMI’s West Street Works in Erith, London in the latter part of 1965.
Reflecting Vox’s robust design and construction, this classic amp wears its years well and is in excellent working condition, with original transformers and electronics in place, along with its two original 12” Celestion Silver alnico speakers.
Cosmetics are equally commendable, with the original basketweave tolex showing minimal wear on lower edges only, the black grill cloth with diamond pattern is intact, all knobs, switches, etc are in place, including the Vox Top Boost badge, the embossed ‘VOX logo handle, and functional original Trem/Vib footswitch.
In operation, the amp has minimal noise floor, all controls work and the tone is clean, loud and classic on all settings. Made just as the Beatles were touring America with their Vox amps and as British pop was about to take over the world. A great amp that is hard to find in this condition.
